Hi Robert
Thanks for adding that.
Yea, that whole thing about the SQL 2012 certification was very badly planned – yet the logic outcome of cancelling the program, which we realized later.
I too was waiting for an Upgrade exam, but then I decided to take the whole 2 exams upon me and use that only chance to get that certification. In the end I rather do too many exams than get a certification for nothing. The naming stays problematic and hence hard to understand for customers, heck, anyone. – Which is part of the reason behind this post: that this time the charter member is given for the older version of the certification as an extra. And the title without actually does certify an exam on the other hand.

I would like to add one more bit of info that has never really been publicized (yet is not NDA). When they announced the retirement of the Advanced Certification program, they gave a deadline for taking the MCM/MCSM exam to get certified. However, the MCA was immediately terminated and no other candidates were allowed to sit for the MCA board review. I tried to submit for the MCA when they announced the retirement and was told that no new submissions were being accepted.

I would also add that the reason lots of MCMs never took the MCSM exams is because we were advised to wait by the program leader because they were making a separate upgrade exam. It wasn't until the program retirement was announced that we learned there would be no upgrade exam and why pay to take the exams if they were going to give you the certification for free?
