Finally I get to write about my conference-talks in 2015.

The year started really great with the German SQL Server Konferenz in Darmstadt with 2 sessions on In-Memory OLTP in SQL Server 2014 – one of them being even a full-day PreCon, which I co-presented with Niko Neugebauer,  who was talking about Clustered ColumnStore Indexes.

Endlich komme ich dazu, auf meine Konferenz-Vorträge dieses Jahr einzugehen.

Das Jahr begann gleich großartig mit der Deutschen SQL Server Konferenz in Darmstadt mit 2 Sessions zu In-Memory OLTP in SQL Server 2014 – eine davon sogar eine ganztägige PreCon, welche ich mit Niko Neugebauer co-präsentierte, der über Clustered ColumnStore Indexe sprach.

In March I was happy to have been speaker for the second time at the SQLBits in London -
probably THE event outside of PASS in Europe if not worldwide.

In April I joined the SQLDay Poland for the first time, giving a session on Locking & Blocking and a second session on Security, namely SQL Injection:

For June I am happy to be able to announce that I will again present on Extended Events at the SQL Saturday #409 Rheinland/Germany. -
In fact I have already presented at the first German SQL Saturday in 2012 on Extended Events (“Tracing with SQL Server 2012 Extended Events”) – I hope this year it will be the final round to get even the last one off from the old & dusty SQL Profiler.

Added to that I am honored to give one of the 2 full day and free of cost PreCons: Together with Patrick Heyde, Microsoft (Technet-Blog), I will talk on SQL Server in Azure Environments. Specifically on how to optimally configure such a deployments to performance and cost-efficiency at the same time. (Also see my blog article “SQL Server in Microsoft Azure: How to gain performance by flexibility and save costs at the same time”)

Besides giving a free PreCon and regular session, my Company Sarpedon Quality Lab is again officially sponsoring this home-event. This is part of my commitment to the German PASS Community – especially since my own family starts taking more time, this is a bit of what I can do to support the PASS Deutschland e.V..

Für den Juni darf ich mich glücklich schätzen, bekanntzugeben, dass ich auf dem SQL Saturday #409 Rheinland wieder zu Extended Events präsentieren werde. – Tatsächlich hatte ich bereits auf dem ersten Deutschen SQL Saturday 2012 zu Extended Eventzs präsentiert
(“Tracing with SQL Server 2012 Extended Events”) – Ich hoffe dieses Jahr wird die letzte Runde sein, um auch den Letzten von dem alten & verstaubten SQL Profiler abzuholen.

Zusätzlich dazu fühle ich mich geehrt, eine der 2 ganztägigen und kostenlosen PreCons zu geben: Zusammen mit Patrick Heyde, Microsoft (Technet-Blog), werde ich über SQL Server in Azure Umgebungen sprechen. Und zwar, wie man solche Deployments optimal konfiguriert um sowohl Performance- als auch Kosteneffizient zugleich zu sein. (Siehe auch meinen Blog-Artikel “SQL Server in Microsoft Azure: Wie man durch Flexibilität Leistung gewinnt und zugleich Kosten spart”)

Abgesehen von der kostenblosen PreCon und regulärem Vortrag, ist meine Firma Sarpedon Quality Lab wieder offizieller Sponsor dieses Events. Das ist Teil meines Engagements für die deutsche PASS Community – speziell seit meine eigene Familie mehr Zeit beansprucht, ist das ein wenig dessen, was ich tun kann, den PASS Deutschland e.V. zu unterstützen.

Nach der Vorstellung des SQL Server 2014 (SQL Server 2014 - Highlights in der Datenbank-Engine im Überblick) auf der BASTA im September in Mainz, geht es weiter im Oktober auf dem Microsoft Technical Server Summit in Düsseldorf mit einem Vortrag zu Neue Speicherformen in SQL Server 2014:

After the introduction of SQL Server 2014 at the BASTA in September in Mainz/Germany, I am continuing in October with a presentation on New Storage-Types in SQL Server 2014 at the Microsoft Technical Server Summit Düsseldorf/Germany:

Anfang November folgt dann das alljährliche Highlight: Nach dem MVP Summit, wo ich hoffe die neuesten Entwicklungen hinsichtlich der nächsten Version des SQL Server zu erfahren, bin ich wie seit 2009 jedes Jahr auf dem PASS Summit in Seattle/USA.
Der Summit ist die erste Anlaufstelle für alle diejenigen, die immer auf dem Neusten Stand sein möchten. Was hier verkündet wird, wird die Inhalte der nächsten 1-2 Jahre auf anderen, kleineren Konferenzen und den Regionalgruppen der PASS weltweit bestimmen.
Dazu kommt der wertvolle direkte Kontakt zu den Entwicklern des SQL Servers vor Ort.
Auch dieses Jahr trage ich wieder selber vor, allerdings nur einen Kurzvortrag, und zwar zu dem Reporting Services Map Reports & Dynamic ZOomiNG:

This is followed by the annual highlight at the beginning of November: After the MVP Summit, at which I’m hoping to learn about the most recent developments in terms of the forthcoming SQL Server, I will be attending the PASS Summit in Seattle/USA, which has become an annual habit since 2009.
The summit is the first point of contact for all those who want to always be up-to-date.  The topics raised here will determine the content of the next one to two years at other, smaller-scale conferences as well at the regional groups of PASS worldwide.

Furthermore, the summit provides the valuable opportunity to connect directly with the developers of SQL Server on site.

This year, too, I will be presenting myself; however, just a short presentation, which will be on Reporting Services Map Reports & Dynamic ZOomiNG:

Kaum zurück in Deutschland bin ich in Berlin auf dem Microsoft Technical Summit, wo auch der neue CEO von Microsoft, Satya Nadella eine Keynote halten wird.
Dort werde ich zusammen mit Patrick Heyde, Microsoft (Blog), das neueste zu der nächsten SQL Server Version präsentieren, soweit bis dahin schon für die Öffentlichkeit freigegeben ist. Zusätzlich dazu werde ich einen Deep Dive-Vortrag in In-Memory geben.

Once back in Germany, my next stop will be the Microsoft Technical Summit in Berlin where Microsoft’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, will be giving a keynote speech.

There, I will be presenting the latest on the forthcoming SQL Server version together with Patrick Heyde, Microsoft (Blog) - as far as already released for the public. Additionally I will be giving a Deep Dive-presentation in In-Memory.

Nachdem ich letztes Jahr das erste Mal als Teilnehmer auf der SQLBits-Konferenz in England war, darf ich dieses Jahr nicht nur eine Session halten, sondern sogar auch einen der begehrten „Training Days“ im PreCon-Stil!

After having attended the SQLBits Conference in the UK last year for the first time, I became not only one of the lucky people to hold a session, but also to give one of the much sought after “Training days” in PreCon-style!

Niko Neugebauer und ich geben am 17. Juli die ganztägige Veranstaltung „In-Memory Technologies in SQL Server 2014: CCI & XTP“.

Niko wird seine Erfahrung mit den neuen Clustered ColumnStore Indexen teilen und ich werde die neue In-Memory OLTP Engine XTP detailliert vorstellen.

Niko Neugebauer and I will be delivering the full day presentation „In-Memory Technologies in SQL Server 2014: CCI & XTP“ on July 17^th.

Niko will share his experience with the new Clusterd ColumnStore Indexes and I will present the all new In-Memory Engine XTP in detail.

Das ist eine überaus große Ehre für uns, zumal dort seit Jahren einige echte Gurus ihres Fachs auftreten. Gestern, am 1. April 2014 erhielt ich die frohe Botschaft: Für meine Beiträge zur Community bin ich von Microsoft mit dem MVP Award (MVP=Most Valuable Professional) ausgezeichnet worden (zum MVP-Profil).

Yesterday, on 1 April 2014, I got great news:
I have been awarded with the MVP Award by Microsoft (MVP=Most Valuable Professional) for my contributions to the community (click here for MVP profile).

Ich freue mich riesig über diese Anerkennung meiner zahlreichen Konferenz-Beiträge, Usergroup-Meetings und anderen Aktivitäten!

So bin ich seit 2009 bis Stand heute auf 27 Konferenzen als Redner zu verschiedenen SQL Server Themen, von Sicherheit über Performance & Indexdesign bis hin zu Reporting Services aufgetreten und habe auf weiteren 34 Usergroup-Meetings Vorträge gehalten.

2013 hat sich meine Aktivität noch einmal gesteigert, so dass ich allein in diesem Jahr auf 11 Konferenzen, von Istanbul/Türkei bis Charlotte/USA, und 14 PASS Regionalgruppentreffen (Liste) als Sprecher angetreten bin.
Und auch 2014 habe ich bereits 2 Konferenzen und 4 Regionalgruppentreffen (Liste) hinter mir – weitere werden folgen: Portugal, England und wenn es hoffentlich? klappt zum 6. Mal in den USA :-)

Damit bin ich fast so viel auf Konferenzen unterwegs wie drei weitere deutsche MVP-Kollegen, die diese Auszeichnung bereits hochverdient für ihren Einsatz für die deutsche SQL Server Community PASS Deutschland e.V. erhalten haben: Tillmann Eitelberg, Oliver Engels – beide im Vorstand der PASS – und Constantin Klein, der unter anderem den Just Community e.V. und die .NET User Group Frankfurt leitet. – Ich freue mich, zu dieser illustren Runde dazustoßen zu können!

Dieser Award ist für mich daher eine tolle Anerkennung und ein Ansporn weiterzumachen – was natürlich nicht heißt, dass ich es nicht auch ohne diesen tun würde, denn die Interaktion mit der Community ist für sich gesehen schon eine echte Bereicherung, von der alle profitieren.

An dieser Stelle möchte ich einigen Personen persönlich meinen Dank aussprechen, die meine Nominierung zum MVP auf verschiedene Weise unterstützt haben:

I am very excited about this recognition of my many contributions to conferences, usergroup meetings, and other activities!

In fact, since 2009 till today, I have appeared as a speaker in 27 conferences, speaking on different SQL Server topics from security to performance & index design to reporting services, and have given presentations in 34 usergroup meetings.

2013 saw yet another boost in my activities: That year alone I was speaker at 11 conferences, from Istanbul/Turkey to Charlotte/USA, and at 14 PASS regional group meetings (list).
In 2014, too, I can already look back on 2 conferences and 4 regional group meetings (list) – with more to come: Portugal, England, and – hopefully it will work out – USA for the 6^th time. :-)

Thus, I am participating in conferences to an almost similar extent as three other German MVP colleagues who have already been awarded, quite deservedly, the very award for their commitment to the German SQL Server Community PASS Deutschland e.V.: Tillmann Eitelberg, Oliver Engels – both of them in the chair of the PASS – and Constantin Klein who heads the Just Community e.V. and the .NET User Group Frankfurt, among others. – I am honored to be joining this illustrious circle!

This award is indeed a fantastic acknowledgement and incentive to continue – of course, this doesn’t mean I wouldn’t do so without this award, because the interaction with the community is in itself already an enrichment from which everyone is benefiting.

I would like to express my personal thanks to the following people who have supported my nomination to MVP in various ways:

So bin ich mindestens genauso dankbar für all die wertvollen Kontakte, die Gesprächsmöglichkeiten und den Austausch untereinander wie für den Award selber.

Im März und April finden 2 europäischen SQLSaturdays statt, die Potential zu einem Geheimtipp haben:

Da ich auch letztes Jahr bereits in Kopenhagen als Sprecher dabei war, kann ich aus erster Hand für die exzellente Organisation und Sprecherauswahl verbürgen.
